This project involved the sensitive refurbishment and extension of a semi-detached villa in a central Cambridge conservation area, which had seen little improvement in the past 50 years.
The interior was remodelled to create a spacious open-plan kitchen and dining area with a bespoke pantry. Original period features—including the brick façade, ornate cornicing, and ceramic fireplaces—were carefully preserved. Sash windows were upgraded with high-performance glazing, and the original stained glass thoughtfully restored.
A new single-storey timber-frame rear extension features textured handmade red brick laid in an offset soldier course bond, providing a striking contrast to the original gault brickwork. A shallow hipped soft-green zinc roof, with large rooflights and a vaulted ceiling, floods the space with natural light. Throughout, bespoke joinery and meticulous detailing blend traditional craftsmanship with contemporary functionality.
